Coaching for Classical Musicians
My six-step system for creating a classical music career that works for you!
1. Mindset
Observe and describe your mindset around surrounding money, what you have learned consciously and unconsciously from your musical communities, the culture in which you were raised, your family. Know yourself.
2. Truth-telling
Plato told us: “Music gives a should to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” What attracted you to a life in the performing arts, what nourishes you in your musical life? Where are your strengths and weaknesses as a musician and a person? Take time to observe your true self, in reality, and what your circumstances are, in great detail, without the assault of judgement.
3. Basics of Money Flow
How would you define money? How is money created? How does it flow in a capitalist economy? I describe how Robert Kiyosaki’s Cash Flow Quadrant (Employee, Self-Employed, Big Business, and Investor) has worked for my music career. What does each quadrant look like in the music industry? What kinds of cash flow vehicles work with different personalities and skill sets. Understand the fundamentals of cash flow in your bank account, the music industry, and the money system.
4. Entrepreneurialism
Problem-solving lies at the heart of every entrepreneurial venture. What are ways musicians problem-solve for ourselves and others? Understanding the basics of marketing as communication.
5. Community
Rather than struggling in silence, find a supportive and safe environment and community to accelerate your financial literacy, foster motivation, and discuss questions and challenges. How do you cultivate your community and where do you find mentors, accountability partners, resources for taxes, legal, and insurance questions?
6. Purpose and Joy
Be curious and courageous to share your authentic voice, ignoring naysayers and the debilitating voice of fear from within. Realize that serving your art and your audience rewards the most intrinsic part of yourself. How do you maintain your enthusiasm and curiosity, especially in the face of disappointments or setbacks?
