Jazz from the bistro featuring Claude Bolling’s Suite for Violin and Jazz Trio

Enjoy an afternoon of French bistro jazz and conversation at Eric Wanger’s Lincoln Park home this spring! Sunday, April 30th at 4pm classical combines with jazz in Claude Bolling's suite for violin and jazz piano with drums and stand up bass. Join Stanford alum Nora Williams ‘88 and Eric Wanger ‘99 for the sixth installment of the Wanger-Willliams Chamber Salon series.

Wine, cheese and espresso will be provided. Parking is free.

The Performers

Imagine your favorite Parisian cafe — now add jazz! The perfect way to put some spring in your step, just as the daffodils and tulips start to bloom. Written for virtuoso violinist Pinchas Zukerman, Claude Bolling’s suite is an exciting and energetic romp featuring violin, jazz piano, drums and stand up bass.

Eric Wanger

Fresh off his Carnegie Hall debut performance at the We Are Here Holocaust Remembrance concert, Eric Wanger is a Chicago based composer and performer. He has studied piano, clarinet, saxophone, and flute, and has played keyboards and woodwinds in a variety of jazz, rock, and classical settings. A Chicago native, Eric received a mathematics degree from the University of Illinois, and a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School. He played lead tenor saxophone in the University of Illinois Jazz Band under Ray Sasaki. His music combines elements of classical, jazz, rock, and ragtime.

Nora Williams

Nora Williams is the Artistic Director at Ossia Musical Forum, past principal viola with the Highland Park Strings, founder and violist with the contemporary string quartet, Red Riding Hood, guest soloist with the South Loop Symphony, and past principal viola and soloist with the Bach and Beyond Chamber Orchestra. Nora' s latest projects include co-producing a chamber music series at The Golden Triangle antique shop and her debut as executive producer of a new dance film, "'Prohairesis" due to premiere in 2023. She is a native of the San Francisco Bay area and received a bachelor’s degree in music from Stanford University.

Joseph Krzysiak

Performing for over eighty main and small stage productions for Music Theater Works over the past twenty-five years, Joseph Krzysiak received his musical education at Southern Illinois University where he earned a bachelor of music degree in performance (double bass) and a master of music degree in music composition. He was a member of the Mississippi Symphony (Jackson) where he served as assistant principal bassist for five seasons in addition to teaching strings in the Jackson public schools. Since 1980 he has been an active freelance musician in the Chicago area, playing in numerous community orchestras and churches. He currently holds the position of assistant principal bass with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and is a member of the Highland Park Strings. In addition to his musical work, Krzysiak works for Thresholds helping people in their recovery from mental illness.

Jeff Stitely

After graduating from the University of Illinois in percussion performance, Jeff began his career as a jazz drummer building a reputation in Chicago by playing with prominent artists as well as the Chicago Symphony, Gershwin-Bernstein Ensemble, Grant Park Symphony, Sinfonieta, Fulcrumpoint, and many others. He won Best Soloist at the ninth International Jazz Competition of Belgium and has been awarded two National Endowment for the Arts grants to study with Victor Lewis and Adam Nussbaum. The Jeff Stitely Quartet recorded three CDs. “Chameleon Eyes” won the distinguished award of Top Ten CD’s of the Year by WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times. They toured both the US and Europe and were finalists in the Hennessey National Jazz Competition in 1995.
