Emily Birsan, soprano Richard Ollarsaba, baritone Thomas Aláan, countertenor NISO Symphony Chorus, Directed by Thomas McNichols
Carmina Burana is a musical feast for the senses. New Philharmonic is joined with the 80-voice Northwest Indiana Symphony Chorus and soloists to perform this powerful cantata of 24 poems written by medieval monks, celebrating dancing, drinking, spring, gambling and other worldly pleasures. Orff’s score is at times powerful, mysterious, hypnotic, and exotic; especially the famous chorus “O Fortuna”, widely used on film and TV, reminds us that fate will always have her say. Borodin’s captivating melodies and energetic rhythms in Polovtsian Dances, blends Russian folk elements to capture the grandeur and drama inherent in the music
